Who Are We

Dancing Argentine Tango

Dancing Argentine Tango

My name is Sorin. I started dancing tango in January 2007. I have not been featured in any tango movies, I have not danced in any tango shows and I have won no competitions. I’m also not planning to ever do any of that, simply because I am not interested.

I have a passion for Argentine Tango, for the dance and the music, and I’m positive I can get you started in learning to dance Argentine tango socially. Watch the videos of myself dancing, as well as the other people I admire.  Should you choose to attend my classes, I will try to teach you to dance like that.  Below there is a video of myself dancing with several partners at a milonga (tango social party) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

IMG_4725crop My name is Debbi and I blame Sorin completely for my current addiction, fascination and immersion in Argentine Tango.

I believe wholeheartedly that tango is not an “I lead, you do” dance, but instead it is a “We Go” dance.  An improvised partner dance such as Argentine Tango should never be dull, it should be first and foremost, a fun social dance. My background as a Contact Improv dancer gave me an edge when I began learning tango in finding connection within improvisation with my partners, and I bring this background to my teaching.

My focus is on dancing with personality, power, and technique.  With special emphasis on followers. I will help you to work on technique by creating “muscle memories” through exercises in order to allow you to focus on the personality you will create in your dance.  This is vital, in my opinion, for both men and women.  Developing your personality and a dynamic range within your dance is another area of focus. As an artist and teacher, I believe that people learn in a variety of ways and learning tango is no different.

If we all danced the same way, it would not be interesting.  This is what keeps me addicted to tango, keeps me going out almost every night and traveling to learn and dance.
